アウル・シティー（フクロウの街）はアダム・ヤングのソロプロジェクト名で、彼の最大のヒットソングであるこの「Fireflies」はちょうど今が見頃の蛍の歌だが、
これは現実ではなく蛍の夢であって、不眠症の男性に訪れた僅かな眠りの中に現れた幻想的な光景。
シンセポップやドリームポップ的なキラキラしたエレクトロなメロディと非現実的な歌詞がマッチしつつも、不眠症で苦しんでいる部分ものぞかせているギャップもある。
YouTubeのMV再生数が現時点で5.3億回以上とえげつないことになっているけど、ここまでキャッチーに仕上げられたらそりゃ人気が出ないわけがないわなと納得できる。
この曲が収録されている『Ocean Eyes』というメジャーデビューアルバムも粒揃いでクオリティの高い作品になっている。
